Under strain

12 Apr 2010

A briefing paper setting out the findings of a survey of Youth Information, Advice and Counselling services (YIACS) into the effect of the recession and the impact of youth policy reforms (c.2009).

Key findings show how the recession and public spending squeeze:

  • have increased young people’s mental health and advice needs;
  • have overstretched the capacity of the YIACS services who strive to meet those needs; and
  • have left services ‘under strain’ and at real risk for the future.

This briefing is for policy makers and planners with an interest in:

  1. Integrated Youth Support Services;
  2. Community Legal Services;
  3. CAMHS; and
  4. Social exclusion among young adults.
