Exploring the impact of Covid-19 on the health and economic wellbeing of young people

This report breakdown explores the impact of Covid-19 on the health, economic wellbeing and employment status of young people accessing local support services.

In 2021, Youth Access received funding from Youth Futures Foundation to engage young people and our members to improve services responding to the socioeconomic problems facing young people as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The funding supported us to provide infrastructural support to members through new research, resources, youth participation programmes and a community of practice for YIACS practitioners. One of these research projects was a review into the impact Covid-19 had on the health, economic wellbeing and employment status of young people accessing local support services.

The University of East London was commissioned to conduct a mixed-methods research study, comprising of a rapid evidence review, qualitative and quantitative research methods. The study involved a mix of 40 young people and member participants from across England.

Key objectives of the research

  • Explore the impact Covid-19 has had on the health and economic wellbeing of the young people accessing Youth Information, Advice and Counselling Services
  • Explore what types of services young people are requiring support from
  • Review the types of services/approaches used in YIACS to support young people to gain and/or retain employment, and their effectiveness
